Exploding onto the scene with his jaw dropping Bass Improvisations, Jamal Hurse has been compared to sounding like “Jaco on Acid!” and is fast becoming known as a “musician’s musician” that EVERYONE can enjoy.

Born with a profound hearing loss, Jamal is a Solo Instrumentalist, who has developed his own innovative style weaving multiple layers of melody and sounds at the same time, what you hear is how he played it! Insisting that the music be human, full of passion and emotion, Jamal at times has little regard to meter or tempo. It is truly a fantastic ride that he takes us on, riding the waves of sound that he produces through his Fretless 4-string Bass. There is no denying that this music comes from another realm, and that not everyone who hears it is prepared for its impact.

Influenced by Artists such as Beethoven, Ornette Coleman, Jimi Hendrix, Charlie Parker, Mike Watt, Angelo Moore, Louis Armstrong, Al DiMeola, Ronnie Montrose, and Ignacy Jan Paderewski, combined with a traditional musical background, Jamal is meditative, melodious, and serene in one moment, then suddenly spins a full 180 into a sound that kicks you in the gut and leaves you scrambling to find your jaw somewhere in the rubble that was once your mind.

Jamal, at 41, is now emerging from his self-induced sabbatical from the public with his totally unique and innovative style that has evoked strong emotions in many a listener. With a “no rules...just express yourself!” attitude towards just about everything in life, Jamal shares this love of life, passions, and his own artistic expression through his music, and has taken the role the of Fretless Electric Bass and turned it upside down.

In Jamal's own words..."I don't play the role...I play the Instrument. Self-Expression is Pure Unfettered Freedom".
